Asheville native Darryl Rhymes has been promoted to Associate Director of Human Resources at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech).
Rhymes has worked in the department since 2008, when he was hired as a Human Resources Assistant. He previously was promoted to Employment Coordinator and was named Special Assistant to the President for Inclusion in 2014.
Rhymes’s new responsibilities recognize the importance of ensuring and promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace. His current role has enabled him to make many positive improvements in the area of inclusion, including as co-chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and facilitator of all full-time employee interviews to ensure fairness in the hiring process.
During his career with A-B Tech, Rhymes has distinguished himself in a number of areas, including:
- Completion of the Executive Leadership Institute in 2012
- Employee of the Month
- Employee of the Quarter
- Nominated twice for Employee of the Year
- Teaching in the curriculum and Continuing Education divisions since 2010
Shortly after beginning her role as Executive Director of Human Resources in March of 2018, Shanna Chambers realized that Darryl’s contributions to the HR Department and the College warranted a promotion. With the support of President Dennis King, she promoted him to his new position in June of this year.
“Darryl tackles every duty with enthusiasm and consistently goes above and beyond to help any individual he encounters both inside and outside of the HR office,” Chambers said. “He is truly the best example to reflect how hard work and excellence can lead an individual to great things, and the A-B Tech Human Resources Department would not be the same without his professionalism, positivity, and caring nature.”
