Asheville Board of Education Seeks Community Input

The city of Asheville’s Board of Education is undertaking a search for a new superintendent.

With the departure of Asheville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Denise Patterson, the city’s Board of Education has launched a campaign to solicit community input from interested stakeholders on the characteristics, experience, and skills they desire in the next superintendent. Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate and engage in the process.

Three public input forums have been held, and three more are scheduled from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on these dates:

  • Thursday, August 22 at Arthur Eddington Center
  • Monday, August 26 at Hall Fletcher Elementary School
  • Thursday, August 29 at North Asheville Library

The deadline for superintendent applications will be Monday, September 16, 2019. The Asheville City School Board will review applications and interview candidates during October and November 2019.

Tentatively, plans are to announce and introduce the new superintendent on or before the end of November 2019 in order for the new superintendent to begin employment on Monday, January 6, 2020. These dates are subject to change as the search process continues.
