June 12Sharon LaMotte and the Bill Gerhardt Quartet play classic jazz from 7 to 7:40 pm.  The Beth Chorneau Band will play from 7:50 to 9pm.

June 19 – Storyteller and humorist Andy Offutt Irwin puctuates his tunes with humorous ancedotes.  A world fusion trio, featuring Chris Rosser, Eliot Wadopian, and Byron Hedgepeth perform original music exploring global cultures.

June 26 – The 17-piece Asheville Jazz Orchestra performs with some of the best swing players in western North Carolina.

CITY COUNCIL

June 13 – The following public hearings are scheduled for the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 13.  This listing is subject to change.  Please call the City Clerk Maggie Burleson at 259-5601 if you have any questions.  The public hearings will consider:

  1. Adoption of the Fiscal Year 2006-07 Annual Operating Budget.
  2. An amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance regarding the minimum lot width for cul-de-sac lots.
  3. An amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance to allow "repair and service businesses" as a permitted use in the Industrial and Light Industrial Districts.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

June 13-15 – Water Rats Camp – Designed for teens who love water sports!  Join us on the water each day for tubing, boating, rafting, or learning about watersheds and stream ecology.  Camp meets at 9 am to 5 pm daily, Montford Recreation Center, 34 Pearson Drive.  Cost:  $120 Asheville resident; $132 non-resident.

June 16 –  Senior Treks – Big Creek – Intermediate, 5-6 mile hike, with slight elevation change.  This low impact trekking club offers leisurely-packed hikes designed with seniors in mind.  Meet at the Recreation Office, 72 Gashes Creek Rd., at 9:30 am on a trip day.  Bring lunch, water, and proper clothing.  Registration required.  Hikers should be in good physical condition.  Cost is $2 per hiker per trip for transportation.

June 27-29 – Climbing Camp –  This two-day rock climbing camp is for teens 13 and up.  Learn basic rock climbing techniques at the Montford Climbing Wall in the mornings, then practice bouldering and climbing at local crags in the afternoon.  Camp meets at 9 am to 5 pm daily, Montford Recreation Center, 34 Pearson Drive.  All equipment, instruction and transportation included.  Cost: $60 Asheville resident, $66 non-resident.
