Canine Trick or Treat – Saturday, October 14 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Dress up those pups and bring them out for a treat scavenger hunt. Giveaways for all. Refreshments provided for humans & canines. Senior Fall Festival – Saturday, October 14 from 3-7 p.m. Fall fun, crafts, food, photo booth, pumpkin carving, and more. Free. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.
Fall Community Clean Up – Saturday, October 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join the Burton Street Center staff on a walk to beautify the community. Litter grabbers, trash bags, and snacks will be provided. All ages. Free. Burton Street Community Center, 134 Burton Street.

Asheville Buncombe Black Elders (ABBE) Community Meeting – Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YWCA, 185 S. French Broad Avenue in Asheville. Come and learn about osteoporosis, vitamins, the importance of flu/Covid/shingles vaccines, scams, Medicare, and more. Snacks will be provided. Free. Space is limited to 50 people. Council on Aging Senior Dining and Wellness Programs
These events are offered to older adults, age 60+, who are registered with the Council on Aging of Buncombe County Senior Dining and Wellness Program. While there is no charge to participate, individuals are given the opportunity to expand services through consumer contributions.
Senior Congregate Dining at the Grove Street Community Center – Monday – Friday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This program offers a variety of educational guest speakers, a nutritious lunch, and more. For more information, please call (828) 350-2062. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.
Senior Dining and Wellness at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center – Wednesday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Eligible adults can enjoy nutritious hot lunches from Moose Café along with weekly fresh produce in a fun, safe, and social setting. A Matter of Balance
Designed to benefit older adults who are: concerned about falls; have sustained falls in the past; restrict activities because of concerns about falling; are interested in improving flexibility, balance, and strength; and are aged 60 and older, community-dwelling, and able to problem solve. Burton Street Senior Elite Club – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Senior citizens are invited to participate in fun activities, planned trips, movie days, chair exercise classes, fellowship days, and game days. Chair Volleyball – Mondays, 12-1 p.m. Enjoy this light workout while sitting down. Every Monday at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center. Health Education Leading to Prevention (HELP) Program – Held on the third and fourth Wednesdays, 12-2 p.m. Led by Kathey Avery, these classes focus on the self-management of chronic disease and diabetes as well as maintaining a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. Healthy Living with ABIPA – Held on the first and second Wednesdays, October 11, November 1 & 8, and December 6 & 13, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. ABIPA focuses on promoting healthy living for African Americans and other unserved populations. Relax and Restore – Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 p.m. until December 21. Designed to help you release tension in the tight muscles of your body using foam rollers and gentle movement flows.
