A laboratory at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) has been renamed in honor of JoAnne Edgerton of Asheville.
Ms. Edgerton worked at MAHEC for 20 years as a Clinical Service Assistant, in which role she taught the clinical staff to draw blood in the learning labs at MAHEC. As a Certified Laboratory Technician, as well as a Certified Phlebotomy Instructor, she taught new phlebotomy students working in clinical labs to ensure they would receive their phlebotomy certifications.
“Teaching is my passion, and I have been in the medical field since I was 17 years old. I’m so humbled that the lab I worked and taught in was named in my honor,” said Ms. Edgerton.
Edgerton retired on March 19, 2019 from MAHEC Clinical Services, but she still participates on several MAHEC committees.
The staff of The Urban News congratulates Ms. Edgerton on a job well done.
