The Conscious Corner by Maceo Keeling –

We all have our reasons for doing the things we do.

Too often, we do things for no good reason at all. We let gravity pull us into a black hole, or we let our impetuousness catapult us into an ever-expanding space we may not even recognize. Neither is true in this case.

After prayer and conscientious thought, I have decided to commit to finishing the things I have started and get the returns for the things I have invested in.

I had no idea how much is involved and all of the moving parts that must be managed in order to get the paper and my articles out. Johnnie Grant and her staff have consistently helped me to raise my standard for the columns I write, and I anticipate continued help and encouragement as I redirect my efforts to the completion of my first book.

It was Johnnie Grant, The Urban News staff, and you, my readers, who have encouraged me to a level of confidence that with a good team and people who care, I can write my books and tell my own stories.

We are once again on the brink of a new year and a new decade. I believe that we assign more significance to these dates that they are due. The truth is that time and dates are just a construct used to attempt to measure what happens between sunrises and sunsets. No special day is needed to make a change. No resolution or grand proclamation necessary: just a decision, a sound plan, and consistent action in the plan will get it done.

I imagine—and pray—that my last piece of advice from this column for 2019 will hit every reader and those readers will spread this simple advice:

Believe that you are enough! Believe that your past does not dictate your future! Believe that you can reinvent yourself and become relevant again! Believe that God is still in charge! Believe that you are lovable and loved! Believe that you can tell your story better than anyone else. Believe that there is a peace beyond sadness, beyond pain, beyond grief! Believe that you can lose the weight a little at a time! Believe that whatever “it” is in your heart, it’s not impossible.

You don’t have to believe that you are the best person on earth, just believe there is no one better.

No one has cornered the market on good ideas. Believe that you can get your ideas heard, seen, funded! Believe beyond belief!

What is it to believe beyond belief?

Get your priorities right. Seek first things of Spirit and it will bless and consecrate the body. Do this now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Now.

My final invitation from the Conscious Corner is, “Keep the Faith!”
