The City of Asheville officially entered a new chapter this week as DK Wesley stepped into the role of City Manager on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Wesley succeeds Debra Campbell following her retirement, and takes over from Assistant City Manager Ben Woody, who served as the interim manager during the transition.

Ms. Wesley is no stranger to the unique challenges and opportunities facing western North Carolina. She brings over 25 years of local government experience to the position, including a recent six-and-a-half-year tenure as Assistant Buncombe County Manager.

“I look forward to supporting the Mayor and City Council, investing in a strong organizational culture, and partnering with the community to build a thriving, resilient, and inclusive future for all Asheville residents,” said Ms. Wesley.

As Wesley steps in to her new role, her first 100 days will be defined by a massive recovery effort following the devastating impacts of Tropical Storm Helene, alongside long-term strategic goals set by the City Council.

While the city has not released a checklist document, Wesley and the Council have several critical priorities that will dominate her initial months.
