Celebrating the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School, its history, and the people of the Long Ridge Community.

After a 12-year renovation effort, the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School is now open for visitors. The Rosenwald Collaborative, Greater Works Church of God in Christ, and AYSIR invite you to attend the following events. There is no cost to attend; donations greatly appreciated. HardLox Jewish Food & Heritage Festival – Music, bands, art, food, and children’s area. Pack Square Park in Downtown Asheville.

Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m.

Rosenwald Documentary – Screening of film by Aviva Kempner w/Ciesla Foundation. Reception featuring homemade desserts and coffee. Hosted by Supt. Ronald Gates. Greater Works Church of God in Christ, 25 Forsythe Street in Asheville.

Sunday, May 22 at 10 a.m.

Photographer Andrew Feiler discusses his three-year journey photographing the Rosenwald Schools. Photographic techniques and research will be shared. Congregation Beth Israel, Social Hall, 229 Murdock in Asheville.

A Better Life for Their Children Book Signing & Presentation – Photographer and author Andrew Feiler discusses the collaboration between educator Booker T. Washington and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald. Held in-person and via Zoom. Books and book signing follow presentation. Congregation Beth Israel, Social Hall, 229 Murdock in Asheville.

Saturday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m.

Jam Session & Creative Collaboration – Native American, African American, and Appalachian traditional and home grown music, instruments, and dance. Location TBA.

The Rosenwald Collaborative

The Rosenwald Collaborative was established in November 2021 by members of local synagogues, churches, community groups, and individuals. The group funds, publicizes, educates, and creates experiential opportunities regarding the joint venture between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington.
