The Waters & Harvey Show will air its 100th episode on Blue Ridge Public Radio this week.
In each broadcast since 2014, Dr. Darin Waters and Dr. Marcus L. Harvey offer informed conversations about history, culture, and their impact on current affairs. Harvey is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at UNC Asheville, and Waters is Deputy Secretary, Office of Archives & History, at NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
The 100th episode, “Reflections and Milestones,” will air at 9 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 on BPR News and BPR Classic, and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 on BPR News.
“Marcus and I have been honored to share this space and time with each of our listeners,” said Waters. “While the production of the show is always a thrill, it has and continues to be our engagement with the audience that keeps us going! Reaching this important milestone would not be possible without the ongoing interest and support of the listening public. We proudly celebrate this moment in the show’s history.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone,” said Catherine Komp, BPR’s Director of Content. “Dr. Waters and Dr. Harvey bring a thorough interrogation of the past, present, and future, while also highlighting the essential role of civic engagement and the community connections that keep us motivated and inspired. Plus, each show guarantees some laughter—a necessary antidote as we process and respond to the world around us.”
The program plans a special live taping of a panel discussion, “The Renaissance of America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” on Thursday, June 16, at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts during the Asheville Ideas Festival. The conversation will include Lynn Pasquerella, President of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and Dr. Harold Martin, Chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University.
In addition to weekly on-air broadcasts, The Waters & Harvey Show is available on demand at BPR.org and as a podcast on the free BPR mobile app and other podcast channels.
