The theme for this year is Black Girl Magic.
Asheville-based nonprofit My Sistah Taught Me That (MSTMT) will host its Fourth Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Celine’s on Broadway in downtown Asheville. Enjoy the latest fashions for both girls and boys, as well as spoken word and dance performances. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door.
MSTMT is a designed for the development, encouragement, inspiration, and education of young girls in Asheville and surrounding areas of western NC. The organization was founded July 7, 2016, and ever since, MSTMT participants have met biweekly with facilitated educational groups. Sessions and discussions include hands-on activities, programs, and opportunities to experience unique events. This program plays a vital role in transforming young girls into positive, strong leaders. MSTMT intentionally includes curriculums and topics that focus on building confidence and self-esteem.
Data, societal attitudes, and stereotypes often paint a negative picture for young girls of color—a self-image that carries on through adulthood. MSTMT is committed to making strides to reduce and even eliminate those attitudes by encouraging more positive self-esteem activities, including its annual fashion show fundraiser.
In preparation of the fashion show each year, participants learn how to positively embrace individual traits and become empowered in their unique differences when compared to others. Attendees at the 4th Annual MSTMT Fashion Show will experience the magic of the participants’ individual differences, cultures, and heritage as the program unfolds through fashion, dance, the spoken word, and other activities.
