Asheville Living Treasures Seeks Nominations
Asheville Living Treasures seeks nominations for its May 2012 honoring ceremony. Three seniors from Buncombe County will be selected for the spring ceremony, which will be held Sunday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 20 Oak Street, Asheville. There will be a reception following the ceremony.
Asheville Living Treasures was founded to recognize and publicly honor those seniors of Asheville, and Buncombe County, who have devoted their lives to making their community a better place to live.
In 2011 – the organization’s inaugural year – seven Living Treasures
were honored. As part of the recognition, all treasures are photographed
and interviewed and an oral history is prepared. The Ramsey Library of
UNC, Asheville, has agreed to be the repository of all oral histories.
Buncombe
County residents 70 years or older are eligible for nomination.
Submissions will be accepted through March 15, 2012. Submissions should
include reasons for the nomination, the nominee’s background, and record
of service.
