Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, a native of Asheville, was elected the 32nd president of the NC-GBSC, having served the last four years as Vice-President-at-large. Dr. Avery is the pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Salisbury, NC. A religious leader of note, Dr. Avery is a frequently sought-out minister, revivalist, and instructor.

Dr. Avery’s installation services were witnessed by a near-capacity crowd at Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, NC.

True to tradition, the outgoing President, Dr. Howard W. Parker, Jr., presided over the Installation Worship services as the final act of his presidential administration. Dr. Avery exemplified strength and dignity in accepting the presidency. He held a Bible that belonged to his late father and thanked his congregation and the many supporters who helped him reach this historic moment.

Dr. Avery quoted from notes his father had written in the margins of the bible many years prior. Those sentiments of service, humility, and faithfulness will guide Dr. Avery’s presidency.
