Stand Against Racism Seeks Participating Sponsors
Staff reports
Stand Against Racism, initiated by the YWCA in 2008 to raise awareness of continuing bigotry, is designed to bring together organizations that believe unity can help eliminate racism.
The YWCA of Asheville is seeking religious groups, other nonprofits, and businesses to participate in the fourth annual Stand Against Racism on Friday, April 29. Faith communities are also encouraged to participate on Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1.
The 2009 Stand Against Racism brought together more than 320
organizations and more than 30,000 people. The 2010 events grew to 1,500
organizations and 200,000 individuals.
The YWCA provides each site with all the materials needed, including a
template on “How to Run your Event,” which can be as short as 15 minutes
or all day long, and can be held privately for the organization’s
members/constituents or open to the public.
There is no cost to a participating site. The Asheville YWCA will
sponsor local Stand Against Racism events; organizations signing up at
www.ywcastand.org will receive a poster to display to publicize their
participation.
