For African Americans Being Overweight is Not Just an Issue of Appearance
Weight Watchers is opening a NEW location at the Eagle Market Streets in Asheville!
An increasing amount of African Americans are overweight and obese according to the American Obesity Association. Because of this, the risks for a number of other health conditions have increased as well.
Key health facts, according to the American Obesity Association:
• Obesity appears to contribute to the higher risk of pancreatic
cancer among black Americans than among whites, particularly for women.
• Among African Americans, the high prevalence of obesity and
obesity-related conditions such as hypertension and type 2 diabetes,
are factors reported to contribute to their high death rate from
coronary heart disease.
• The high prevalence of obesity is reported to be a contributing
factor to the high prevalence of hypertension among African Americans
who have an earlier onset and run a more severe course of hypertension.
Losing just 10 percent of your body weight can make a real difference;
it can lower cholesterol and reduce blood pressure. If you are ready to
get started, Weight Watchers is here to help you get in shape with a
new location in Asheville starting September 12th. The new meeting will
be held at the Eagle Market Streets located on 70 South Market with
