Event Support Grants Expand Opportunities for Free Arts Programming in Asheville

The City of Asheville has opened its annual Event Support Grant, administered by ArtsAVL, with two funding tracks designed to keep public spaces vibrant, creative, and welcoming.

Together, the Event Support Grant and the Rolling Mini‑Grant Pilot help sustain free cultural programming that strengthens community connection and celebrates Asheville’s diverse artistic heritage.

Event Support Grant

Annual Funding for Large-Scale Public Events

Nonprofit organizations producing free, public arts and cultural events can apply for $3,000–$10,000 in support. Applications for events taking place in 2027 open September 14, 2026, and close October 13, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Eligible events must occur in City of Asheville outdoor public spaces located within the Asheville Downtown Improvement District. Funding is intended to help offset City-related fees associated with producing public events.

Rolling Mini‑Grant Pilot

Support for Pop‑Ups and Small Events

The Mini‑Grant pilot provides up to $2,500 for smaller-scale or pop-up events. Eligibility is open to:

• Nonprofit organizations located in Buncombe County
• For‑profit businesses located within the footprint of the proposed event

This pilot program is designed to help cover City fees tied to outdoor public events. Applications remain open until November 15, 2026.

Both funding tracks aim to increase access to the arts, deepen community engagement, and ensure Asheville’s public spaces remain active, inclusive, and culturally rich. They support events that celebrate creativity, heritage, and the shared life of the city.

Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Events must take place in City of Asheville outdoor public spaces within the Downtown Improvement District.
• The event producer must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit in operation for at least one year.
• Organizations must maintain a physical presence in Buncombe County.
• Events must be free and open to the public.
• Events must be permitted through the City of Asheville Office of Outdoor Special Events.
• Religious organizations are not eligible unless the event serves the broader community and contains no religious content.
• Events must occur January 1 – December 31, 2027.
• A final performance report is required within 60 days of the event or final date in a series.

Priority goes to events that increase access to the arts, strengthen community engagement, and/or enhance quality of life for Asheville residents. These priorities reflect the city’s commitment to public cultural programming that is inclusive, accessible, and community centered.

Allowable Expenses

Grant funds may be used only for City fees and charges outlined in the Non‑Profit Fee Calculator and the City of Asheville Outdoor Special Event Guide. Applicants are strongly encouraged to schedule a pre‑application appointment well before the October 13, 2026 deadline to ensure accurate budgeting and eligibility.
