Ramadhan begins August 10, 2010, and will be observed at the North East Tennessee Islamic Center. Imam Faneem Aziz invites everyone of every faith to join them during the 30-day observance at the center located on Antioch Road in Johnson City.

The center, built in 2008, is 9,400 sq. ft. and contains several classrooms, meeting rooms, and a large prayer room. On the weekends the center has several classes in Islamic and Arabic studies, and hosts three community events during the year.

Imam Aziz and Ghangat told the Urban News that one would be amazed at
the diversity of the people who attend these events — they come from
all walks of life, and from all corners of the world.

During Ramadhan, people of the center will fast from sun up to
sun down with no food or drink for one lunar month. However, after
sunset everyday, a break fast will be held at the center. At the end of
the holy month of Ramadhan, which will be the week of September 10,
there is a celebration that Imam Aziz encourages people of all faiths to
attend.

Prayer is held every Friday at the center at 1:30 p.m.
