Appalachian Trail Conservancy Offers Paid Internship

PrintThe Conservation Leadership Intern will support the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s (ATC) Broader Relevancy efforts through developing and disseminating research, and developing communication strategies on physical and mental benefits derived from hiking and volunteering along the Appalachian Trail (AT).

The position will be introduced to various facets of volunteer and program coordination including, on-the-ground stewardship, exposure to recruitment techniques, volunteer recognition, writing, and reporting.

The intern will participate in the Wilderness Skills Institute the first two weeks, receiving training, history, and certifications in wilderness, crosscut saw certification, Wilderness history and stewardship, trail maintenance, and visitor use management. Leaders and staff from ATC, U.S. Forest Service, and other agency and organization staff will provide meaningful education about public land management.

Qualifications

  • Marketing, Journalism, News Media, English, Parks & Rec, or similar education/experience background
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Research skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and internet research
  • Video editing experience preferred
  • Proven ability to interact positively

Special Requirements:

Two weeks during the Wilderness Skills Institute will require camping. Gear will be provided, and an interest in outdoor recreation is preferred.
