Our VOICE, in partnership with Arts2People, will publicly display intention flags created by survivors and allies in downtown Asheville along Lexington Avenue throughout the month of April. Hey Baby! Resisting Sexual Harassment in Public Spaces, One Bloque at a Time – 7 to 10 p.m.
An exhibition hosted by BookWorks in which artists have created works that are resisting, working to prevent, and educating people about sexual harassment on our streets. 9th Annual Survivor’s Art Show
and Auction – 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The Our VOICE Survivors’ Art Show showcases artwork created by
survivors in order to support and honor their experiences, and unite
our community against sexual violence. An art auction, made possible by
the generous support of local businesses and artisans, will benefit and
support the work of Our VOICE. Please join us for an evening of art,

April 20
No! The Rape Documentary
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Produced and Directed by Aishah Shahidah Simmons, an incest and rape
survivor, this groundbreaking feature length documentary features
riveting testimonials from Black women rape survivor who defy
victimization.
Violence prevention advocates, theologians, scholars and human rights
activists provide an interdisciplinary context with which to examine
sexual violence in African-American communities.

April 30
Theatre of the Oppressed Workshop on Street Harassment – 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Join Our VOICE and facilitator Taryn Strauss for a workshop on dealing
with street harassment and other forms of sexual oppression. This
powerful, interactive workshop will utilize Forum Theatre and Image
Theatre to work through real-life scenarios and develop strategies for
overcoming oppressive situations. Our VOICE – United Way, 50 S. French
Broad Ave., conference room 3.

Got Consent?
Peer educators from Teens Taking Action will lead an interactive
workshop on consent, boundaries and assertive communication. Sponsored
by Our VOICE and Planned Parenthood. Asheville High School, 419
McDowell St.
Bar Outreach on Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault – Our VOICE volunteer
advocates are working this spring to raise awareness in downtown bars
about the issue of drug-facilitated sexual assault (DFSA). The goal of
the Bar Outreach Project is to foster safer spaces at local bars and
encourage community members to increase personal and community
accountability.
In the pursuit of a community that is free of sexual violence, Our
VOICE serves all individuals in Buncombe County affected by sexual
assault and abuse, through counseling, advocacy and education. For more
