Mission Hospital Community Engagement
Listening sessions scheduled for March 9 & 10, 2026.

Community members in western North Carolina will have an opportunity in March to share feedback on the oversight of Mission Hospital following ongoing concerns about patient safety and compliance under its current ownership.
Public listening sessions are scheduled for March 9 and March 10 as part of community engagement efforts tied to the independent monitoring of Mission Health after its 2019 sale to HCA Healthcare.
Sessions in S. Asheville, Brevard
The sessions will be hosted by Dogwood Health Trust and the independent monitor, Affiliated Monitors Inc., which was appointed to review HCA Healthcare’s compliance with commitments made during the acquisition of Mission Health System. The first session will be held in Brevard March 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Transylvania County Library’s Rogow Family Community Room at 212 Gaston St.
The second session will take place in South Asheville on March 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It will be held at the Western Carolina University campus at Biltmore Park, Room 346, 28 Schenck Parkway. The Asheville session will also be livestreamed, and a recording will be made available for those unable to attend in person.
Oversight Needed
The meetings are to include an overview of findings from the independent monitor’s 2024 reporting year, updates on ongoing oversight efforts, and information about the process for the 2025 report. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, both in person and through advance submissions. Representatives from Dogwood Health Trust, HCA Healthcare, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, and the NC Attorney General’s Office are expected to attend.
Mission Hospital has been under continued federal scrutiny of Mission Hospital, including a recent “immediate jeopardy” citation from by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Dogwood Health Trust officials have said community input remains a critical part of evaluating whether HCA Healthcare is meeting its obligations under the purchase agreement.
Those interested in participating may attend in person or view the livestream of the March 10 session. Additional details are available through Dogwood Health Trust (www.dht.org) and the independent monitor (independentmonitormhs.com).
