City of Asheville Live Stream Now Available on More Systems

The City of Asheville’s new and upgraded streaming technology has made its online live stream of the Government TV Channel (www.ashevillenc.gov/gtv) on more devices and operating systems.

The city has provided live streaming of the Government TV since 2008, broadcasting Asheville City Council meetings, public service announcements, and notices of special events as a way to make public information accessible to everyone.

The channel also airs on Charter Cable channel 193 (formerly channel 11). Asheville City Council meetings and government-related videos are available on-demand at the city’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/cityofasheville).

The city website’s new streaming system uses H.264 video format, compatible with more operating systems and devices, including mobile devices, than the previously used Widows Media, expanding the availability of the channel’s information.

“With the increasing popularity of mobile devices, we thought it was important to make the content accessible to as many devices as possible,” says Systems Analyst Jeff Reble. “The recently upgraded system uses the most commonly supported video streaming format in use today.”

Viewers, as well as websites linking to the City of Asheville live stream, will find it at the same location online: www.ashevillenc.gov/gtv.
