Since the Nashville shooter was transgender that is what the Republican’s are focusing on.

Republicans want us to care that the shooter was transgender, a member of a group they hate. They’re using this horrible, sick, preventable mass murder where real people are having to manage the worst pain a human being can ever experience, to advance their anti-trans agenda.

Transgender people were never a threat until the Republicans made them one, and now that one has killed children in a private Christian school, they get to blame them. They equate being trans with mental health issues, so this shooting gives them a convenient loophole to avoid gun legislation.

First they blamed doors, then porn, and then video games, now they’ve pivoted to the transgender community which is now under siege. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted, “How much hormones like testosterone and medications for mental illness was the transgender Nashville school shooter taking? Everyone can stop blaming guns now.” Her account on Twitter has now been suspended for spewing hateful, anti-trans content.

Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett’s take on drag queens vs mass shootings. This demonstrates perfectly the complete moral rot of Tennessee politicians.

Drag: “We’re not going to put up with it.

Mass shootings: “We’re not gonna fix it.”

Uncontrolled access to firearms endangers us all. According to the Gun Violence Archive (www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting), there have already been 130 mass shootings this year. Tennessee’s US Senator Marsha Blackburn has received $1,306,130 to date from the NRA.

State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation’s first anti-red flag law. He thinks these bills protect the Second Amendment, and that they make us safer.

These Republicans are encouraging others to bully transgender people, the same behavior that contributed to every shooters anger and rage. Not only are they not going to fix it, they’re going to fuel the problem.

Trans people are not the problem. According to the Williams Institute at UCLA, transgender people are highly unlikely to be violent but disproportionately likely to be the victims of violence.

The reason so many children are dying by gunfire in US schools is because of military-style assault weapons. The more these weapons permeate our society, the more more likely it is that somebody will pick one up and use it for its intended purpose, to quickly kill large numbers of people.

America’s gun problem is getting worse. Gun ownership has become a patriotic ideal. Deadly AR-15s are as common as apple pie — owned by people with no conceivable need for them. The number one cause of death for American children is guns. The first job of a sane, decent society is caring for the vulnerable, the elderly, and children.

None of us are truly free if we can’t protect our children. It is only a matter of time before violence comes close enough to harm or murder me. It will do the same to you. At any time, at any place — at school, at a concert, at church, at work, at a cultural center, on merely on a random street — each of us is at risk of being shot.

The NRA has spent decades weakening regulations and intimidating any agency or office that dared to broach the topic of firearms. White House leadership and a Gun Sense Cabinet can create a mandate for action with an all-hands effort coordinated through a task force that rethinks how each agency has a role to play in protecting the public from gun violence.
