Cameras; Casualties; Point and Shoot

The Conscious Corner by Maceo Z. Keeling, Sr. –

The insurrection that happened at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021 was beyond a travesty; it was an invasion not seen since the British attack on the US in the War of 1812.

This was a baseless action against the US government driven by Donald Trump who whipped his followers into a frenzy, and then stood watching his coup d’état unfold, laughing along with his chief of staff Mark Meadows, government employees, his family, and friends.

So let’s ponder this. Reporters pointed cameras at people literally storming the Capitol building offices and chamber. And they shot lots of video and still pictures. Right?

If this had been BLM activists who breached the US Capitol, there would have been shots fired, and not from cameras. There would have been fewer people to arrest and more people to bury.

What we witnessed on January 6 did not happen in a vacuum. Elected legislators from many states have fanned the flames of a pending insurrection for YEARS. At the federal and state level, they have passed tax laws that harm working people then benefit the super-rich who pay for their campaigns. They have gerrymandered voting districts to disempower their own constituents and refused to pass legislation that would help people sustain their livelihoods.

Many of those constituents signed on the baseless claims of Donald Trump, claims that have been easily, repeatedly disproven: birther conspiracies, fake news about proven facts, “stand down and stand by” requests, and his utter ignorance of, and disdain for actual governance. All his shortcomings, and his deliberate actions, contributed directly to this revolt on democracy—including the loss of five lives.

These constituents—we should call them conspirators—and the same elected lawmakers (conspiracy whisperers) were possibly, even likely, supported with insider information, including some level of Capitol Hill intelligence about locations of “hideaway” offices, that put other legislators lives in jeopardy. Then, after their horrific, seditious insurrection resulted in tragedies and death, all of a sudden they “found Jesus” (and a conscience).

Their complicity, or conspiracy, has earned these people individual liability where there is enough evidence. The depth and degree to which these breaches occurred is still an unfolding story—and unless prosecutors are very careful, diligent, and smart, many perpetrators will get a pass. Some will even get a presidential pardon before they’re even indicted.

You decide if the invasion of the United States Capitol rises to the level of direct action against the government, or if Donald Trump’s words rise to the level of sedition causing this insurrection. YOU decide if the person that represents your interest in the Congress, District, and Senate have the maturity, discernment, and experience in government to represent our diverse interest.

YOU decide … how this happen and how did we get here?

I’m just saying …
