Asheville-Buncombe Community Land Trust

Creating permanently affordable homes in Buncombe County.

While the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Helene is catastrophic, the Asheville-Buncombe Community Land Trust (ABCLT) has jumped in to meet immediate needs, sought wisdom from other Community Land Trusts, and mobilized teams who will execute a response strategy.

As an organization focused on establishing permanently affordable spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and low- to moderate-income residents, the ABCLT is dedicating resources to both immediate relief efforts and long-term strategies to ensure an equitable recovery.

The ABCLT is working to make homes more affordable and abundant and to create stability and wealth for residents. As WNC rebuilds, ABCLT is committed to creating permanently affordable homes and help residents stay in place.

To accomplish this mission, ABCLT staff will maintain and expand the homeownership program. This includes working with buyers on their journey towards homeownership as well as caring for our current homeowners and applicants. ABCLT is committed to:

  • Distributing supplies and providing connections to temporary housing and/or repair contractors
  • Offering respite, power, and internet at our office
  • Helping with FEMA, unemployment, grants, and other resources

While FEMA vouchers have limited, short-term use, many families are looking for mid- and long-term housing to have some sense of normalcy and stability as they put the pieces of their lives back together. Whether you are looking for something for one week or one year, your budget is $0 or $2,000, ABCLT will do our best to find a match for you and your family.

If you are a short-term rental operator who knows that tourism will be slow for months, if you were going to sell your house but are waiting for a stronger market, or if you had a renter who evacuated or relocated, ABCLT may be able to work with you in a way that helps preserve community.
