In Loving Memory of Floyd Caldwell

Rest in peace, power, and paradise.

My name is Marian Allen, also known as “Pete” Bailey.

Floyd Caldwell was my dearest and most cherished male friend—truly one of a kind. We were more than platonic friends; we were family. We loved each other like brother and sister, and he was always there for me and my family, no matter what.

I met Floyd growing up in Lee Walker Heights, and for more than 50 years we shared an unbreakable bond. There was nothing we wouldn’t do for each other. My children and grandchildren have always known him as Uncle Floyd, just as the Lee Walker Heights community knew him as everyone’s uncle.

One of my most cherished memories is when Floyd accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Through prayer, fellowship, and the guidance of the late Rev. Mosley, his wife Diane, and loving friends, Floyd grew closer to the Lord each day until he was called home. Diane was a blessing to Floyd until his very last breath, and I am thankful he found peace in his mind, body, heart, and soul.

Floyd served this country honorably in the US Army as a sharpshooter, though he rarely spoke about his service. He sacrificed so much, both for his country and his community, and he truly had a heart of gold. If you never experienced Floyd as a loyal and selfless friend, you truly missed out.

Floyd was a wonderful listener and confidant who never judged others. He saw the best in everyone, genuinely cared for people, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was thoughtful, patient, compassionate, and kind beyond measure. He especially looked forward to my collard greens and smoked turkey necks—and I will truly miss sharing those moments with him.

The last words Floyd said to me were, “I love you,” and I replied, “I love you more.”

Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort knowing he is free from pain and resting safely in God’s hands. We celebrate a life well lived and the countless ways Floyd enriched our lives with his love, friendship, and fighting spirit. He was irreplaceable, and he will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Rest in peace, power, and paradise, Floyd. We love you always. Thank you for loving us all.
