Two young men struggle to survive on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Grappling with a world built against them and navigating unique paths to manhood, 23-year-old Bill (Jojo Bapteise Whiting) and 12-year-old Matho (LaDainian Crazy Thunder) struggle to survive poverty, crime, and exploitation.

This slice of life drama gives us a very realistic portrayal of life on a Native American reservation. Every moment in Bill and Matho’s lives are tied to survival and misery, but can they also find beauty and kindness?

War Pony captivates us with its breathtaking visuals and gritty realism. The film transports us to a world of raw emotion and visceral action. The characters and their struggles are heartbreaking in this new film directed by Riley Keough and Gina Gammell.

At its best, War Pony highlights the hopelessness of life on the reservation when the only choices one has are the wrong ones. The Lakota people were robbed of their land, massacred, and forced to assimilate. Bill and Matho represent another generation that is paying the price for the American dream.
