Patricia Serrano and David Seth Miller present The Power of Podcasting for the Global Community at A-B Tech.
Patricia Serrano came to A-B Tech to learn English. She came to Asheville for love. Living her life in Buenos Aires in Argentina, Serrano met David Seth Miller in 2017.
“We had a long-distance relationship for three years. We only saw each other two times a year. I said we need to finish this or do something,” she said. So, they decided to do something. Serrano moved to Asheville two years ago, which was a huge and difficult decision to make.
Serrano was used to being in a very large city as an independent woman living alone. She and Miller married and now share a home in Asheville. “I love living here. I love the mountains,” she said. “I come to Asheville and don’t really speak English.” She attends the ELA classes at A-B Tech to improve her English.
Serrano and Miller are both journalists. “I always wanted to a be a journalist. When I was in high school, I always wanted to write,” she said. When she was 17, she went to the National University of La Plata in Argentina to fulfill her dream.
“The thing I love the most about being a journalist is telling stories about people and maybe changing the perception others have about people. Everyone has an interesting life and an interesting story,” Serrano said.
Serrano and Miller have a Los Latinos podcast in Spanish. She has done stories for Blue Ridge Public Radio. “I only live two years here and now my voice is on public radio, and that is amazing for me—and it is crazy.
Serrano and Miller will present “Our Stories Matter: The Power of Podcasting for the Global Community” at A-B Tech at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 in Ferguson Auditorium on the Asheville campus. The free session will be an intercultural story hour where they will discuss the most human form of communication: telling a story.
The event is sponsored by Global Education at A-B Tech.
