The Senior Companion Program of Land-of-Sky Regional Council recognized over 60 volunteers with a Holiday Luncheon at Laurel Wood Apartments in Asheville, N.C.
The Senior Companion Program of Land-of-Sky Regional Council recognized more than 60 volunteers with a Holiday Luncheon at Laurel Wood Apartments in Asheville to thank them for the tremendous work they do in our communities.
The Senior Companion Program is part of Senior Corps, a federally funded volunteer program through the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Senior Companions are volunteers aged 60 or older who commit to
volunteering between 15 and 40 hours a week helping other seniors in
Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania Counties. Senior
Companions provide respite care to family caregivers; assist homebound
persons living alone with light housework, transportation, and
companionship; and work with Hospice and Adult Day Care centers.
Between September 2007 and September 2008, 73 companions
volunteered 59,967 hours, serving approximately 167 clients in our
four-county region.
