Several thousand veterans and citizens hurt by cuts to the federal workforce speak out.

A rally held on March 14, 2025 on the National Mall called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Protesters carried signs criticizing Trump, Elon Musk, and the uncalled for federal workforce cuts made by Musk’s DOGE team. The firings across the government have hit veterans hard since they make up about 30% of the federal workforce. Democrats in Congress have estimated about 6,000 veterans have been fired so far.

The rally featured speakers such as former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn who was on patrol during the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. He called for Trump’s removal using a Constitutional clause. Meanwhile, American Opposition founder Carlos Alvarez-Aranyos called on Republican and Democratic leaders to stand up against Trump.

The protest was organized by a group of progressive advocates calling itself Fourteenth Now, a reference to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The 14th Amendment disqualifies someone from holding office if they engaged in insurrection.

According to an interview with Dawn Burson, a Navy veteran, “Everything that they’re [Trump and Musk] doing is illegal and unconstitutional. I took an oath to defend the Constitution, not illegal action. If people want to dismantle the government, they should do it through Congress, who will make the law, and not through executive overreach.”
