Emergency crews are out navigating hazardous conditions as they assess damage in impacted communities.
Shelters are open and there are widespread cell service and power outages across the region. Many roads are impassable.
Interstates 40 and 26 are impassable in multiple locations. Every road in WNC should be considered dangerous due to extreme flood conditions. Residents should stay off the roads.
Many Asheville residents have been without drinking water since yesterday. Extensive repairs will be required to bring Asheville’s water system back online.
Buncombe County has established a non-emergency line for community reports for fallen trees and debris: 828-250-6650.
All Parks and Recreation facilities are closed until further notice.
City Offices will be closed Monday, September 30, 2024 to allow full support to the recovery efforts.

ART services are suspended until further notice. ART buses have been supporting relief efforts. ART was able to successfully transport over 578 individuals in need to shelters. Buncombe County is operating a shelter at the Ag Center. All the people from the shelter at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville were moved to the Ag Center. The county plans to open another center at A-B Tech.

Western Carolina University is suspending classes through Friday, October 4, but services on campus are available to students.
