Helpmate Seeks Counselor – African American Focus

Helpmate, Inc., a domestic violence agency in Asheville, NC, seeks to hire a full-time 30 hour per week Counselor with a focus on African American survivor services.

The Counselor – African American Focus is a non-exempt position, which reports directly to the Counseling Program Coordinator. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide individual and group support and counseling to survivors of domestic violence. They will coordinate comprehensive services to survivors with a focus on issues that impact the African-American community, such as the dual impact of domestic violence and racism.

The Counselor will facilitate multiple support groups that focus on the particular needs of African-American survivors and parents whose children have been impacted by domestic violence. This position will require some evening work. Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree in counseling or social work with license or license-eligibility and at least two years’ experience in domestic violence or women’s issues/ human services field.

Qualifying experience and fluency in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, or Moldovan is incentivized. Salary range for qualified candidates is $34,975-$42,478.
