The City of Asheville invites applications for the position of Systems Analyst I
The City of Asheville is currently hiring a full-time Systems Analyst to deliver business technology and consulting services for internal customers and to work with the community to deliver technology solutions that improve engagement between the community and city government. This position is open until filled, with applications being reviewed weekly.
The hiring rate for this position is $56,119 year, and the full salary range is $56,119 per year to $84,179 per year. Typical hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm with occasional evening or weekend work as needed. We are open to alternative work arrangements including a combination of on-site and remote work.
The Systems Analyst serves as a primary point of technical support for the city’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and other enterprise software applications (e.g. permitting, recreation management, forms, forms, etc). Evaluates existing business process flow and makes improvements with a focus on customer experience and usability.
In all of this work, the focus is on using cloud computing and modern application infrastructure, resulting in faster, more resilient services that are usable by a much more diverse population. Since GIS is a keystone of City operations and an important tool for equitable community engagement, familiarity with GIS is a plus but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides troubleshooting and business analysis services for internal customers using enterprise applications (e.g. MUNIS, Accela, RecTrac, etc.).
- Identify problem areas or processes that can be improved to proactively reduce the number of support requests.
- Helps design, test, and implement technology solutions with a focus on customer usability.
- Focuses on opportunities for automation.
- Analyzes, evaluates and reviews systems and procedures to provide solutions to reported problems or to improve current operations.
- Confers with departmental personnel and management to resolve program intent, input and output requirements, data accuracy and the use of internal checks and controls.
- Work as an intermediary between vendor support and internal customers.
Education & Experience:
- Please note that work experience will be considered as a substitute for formal education and degrees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Processing or Information Systems and/or least two (2) years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Database skills (SQL Server Management Studio & Reporting Services; and/or PostgreSQL).
- Ability to concurrently work on high volumes of requests.
- Familiarity with some or all of the following is a plus: Tyler MUNIS (or other ERP system), Accela, RecTrac, ArcGIS.
