WWTP Operator

Hiring range $39,007 (min) – $55,440 (mid). Salary will depend on qualifications and experience.

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work in the operation and minor maintenance of equipment at the wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County. Work involves collecting samples from plant systems, and controlling mechanical, electrical, and chemical equipment involved in pumping and treating wastewater along with the operation of a fluidized-bed incinerator.

Employee is also responsible for making adjustments and minor repairs to equipment as required. Independent judgment and initiative are required based on training and experience in making decisions and coordinating the proper operation of equipment. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with MSD staff. Reports to the WWTP Operations Manager.

***Plant Operations is 24-hour 7-day week function, (Overtime may be required) ***

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and 1 to 2 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and mechanical repair work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

• Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Grade II Biological operator’s license in wastewater treatment issued by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality or North Carolina equivalent.

Construction Inspector, SS Construction Administration Division

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the Construction Inspector position currently open in the System Services Construction Division. This position will close on October 15, 2021.

Hiring salary range is $44,136.00-$58,246.00 depending on qualifications.

Job Duties:

Under limited supervision, performs supervisory and technical work in the inspection of large and/or complex projects at the Metropolitan Sewerage Districts Wastewater Treatment Plant, sewerage pumping stations, and other atypical sanitary sewer construction project sites. Enforces District standards and conformance with approved plans and specifications. Must be familiar with construction materials, and machinery. Must ensure compliance with proper safety, ISO 14001 requirements. Responsible for pre-project planning, coordination between Contractors and District personnel/operations, and accounting for project activities in daily logs. The employee shall be knowledgeable in building code regulations to stay abreast of changes. Required to exercise considerable independent judgment in applying standards to a variety of work situations. Reports to the Lead Construction Inspector or Director of Construction and works closely with District Engineering Staff.

Minimum Training and Experience

• An Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Design, Construction Technology or Construction Management and 10 years of experience in Civil Construction including Heavy Utility Construction or any combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

• Must have knowledge of approved construction practices, material and equipment, as well as Federal, State and local safety rules and regulations.

• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the water/wastewater industry is highly preferred.
