MSDBC Job Opening: Construction Crew Leader

Hiring range is from $22.84 (min) to $28.00 (mid) an hour.

Job Duties

Under general supervision, performs supervisory and skilled work in the installation, and repair of sewer lines, operation of equipment and the repair, modification and installation of manholes, directs the activities of Construction Crew Equipment Operators, Construction Crew Workers I, II & III. Responsible for the coordination, scheduling and execution of the trenchless technology disciplines for repair and/or installation of sewer lines and building services for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County, NC.

Work involves the performance of the more complex tasks in the construction of sewerage pipelines, the training and supervision of employees within a small work crew, assisting with the selection of equipment, materials and supplies used in the overall work program, repair and installation of manholes, clearing and logging of District rights-of-ways, directing, supervising and inspecting the work of employees. Independent judgment and initiative are required in prioritized work schedules and dealing with maintenance tasks, major installation projects and personnel. Tact and courtesy are required in dealing with the public and other government agencies concerning construction activities. Employees are subject to OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens. Reports to the Manager of System Services Construction.

Minimum Training and Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED and 3 to 8 years’ experience in water and/or sewer line construction and maintenance work, right-of-way clearing or any combination of training and experience.

• Must hold a Grade II Wastewater Certification or have the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire.

• Possession of valid North Carolina driver’s license.

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
