Job Opportunity – Buncombe County MSD Pre-Treatment Supervisor

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the Pre-treatment Supervisor position currently open in the Wastewater Treatment Plant Division.

Salary range is $63,614 (min) – $77,960 (mid).

Working under general supervision, performs supervisory oversight and technical work within the Industrial Pretreatment and Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) programs.  Will conduct inspections and review those of others related to pretreatment operations, maintenance of compliance records, comply with local, State and Federal regulations.  Will review testing procedures for any contract commercial laboratory used by the District for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) and enter sample data results into MSD’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) program.

Employee is responsible for acting as a liaison with various industries and commercial users to keep all parties informed of the status and condition of generated waste.  Independent judgement is required in analyzing data and determining effective corrective measures.  The employee must be familiar with collection systems in investigating and determining the source and cause of unknown substances and grease blockages in the sewer lines.  Tact, courtesy and firmness are required in frequent dealings with industrial, commercial, and environmental representatives.

Employee is expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of industrial and commercial waste generation and laboratory testing procedures. Work involves assuring specialized tests are performed for water samples, and prepar­ing and submitting reports required by state and federal guidelines. Employee is also respon­sible for work coordination of other Pretreatment inspectors and instructing new section employees as necessary in operations, testing, and inspection procedures.  Employee reports directly to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Director and may be assigned other duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field in biological science and 5 to 10 years of experience in laboratory analysis work; preferred familiarity with biological activated treatment plants, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, supervisory skills and abilities. Must possess a Grade IV Operator’s license in wastewater treatment issued by the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources.  Requires a valid North Carolina driver license
