Preston Blakely, elected mayor in 2021, confirmed that he will seek re-election in 2026 to continue serving as Mayor of Fletcher.

A lifelong resident of the Henderson County town, Blakely has been focused on supporting parks and recreation, community engagement, the Town Center Project, and supporting the region’s recovery after Hurricane Helene.

Blakely said, “We have accomplished much, and I am proud of our Council, staff, and community. We have supported our parks and infrastructure and recovery after Hurricane Helene. I am grateful to work with a cohesive, diligent council and staff.”

Fletcher, a township on the northern border of Henderson County, a few miles north of Hendersonville, has developed its own personality over the past several decades. A major project has been designating, designing, and developing the town center, offering a sense of place for residents and visitors alike. As a native, Blakely has been a strong supporter of this effort.

Other areas of focus during his tenure include supporting investments in town parks; prioritizing open communication and making town government accessible; and supporting and strengthening relationships and accomplishments of the town’s staff.

Blakely has also focused on recovery following the devastation of Tropical Storm Helene, which passed through WNC the last weekend of September 2024. He serves on the Governors Recovery Office for Western North Carolina (GROW NC) Advisory Committee as well as other boards in the region.
