Close the GAP Survey Addresses Sidewalks and Greenways in Asheville
The City of Asheville is in the midst of a large project to update the City’s Greenway Plan, ADA Transition Plan, and Pedestrian Plan.
The planning process, known as Close the GAP, will identify a network of the pedestrian, greenway, and accessibility networks for our community as well as programs and policies to support it. The pedestrian network will be stronger if the three aspects, greenways, ADA transitions, and pedestrian networks, are planned at the same time.
Take a look at these informational presentations about Close the GAP and the Asheville Unpaved efforts, then give us your input and help us spread the word.
Take the Surveys
The Close the GAP survey addresses sidewalks and greenways in Asheville. It also has questions related to a new initiative for natural surface trails (aka dirt trails) in Asheville. We are calling this initiative “Asheville Unpaved.” Please take this survey if you are interested in more and better sidewalks and greenways within Asheville city limits. There is an overview presentation that explains our planning process. We recommend watching the presentations before taking the survey.
The ADA Transition Plan survey addresses accessibility issues within the public right-of-way. Right-of-way is a fancy word for the property the City controls where our streets and sidewalks are built. This survey addresses roads, sidewalks, crosswalks and ramps that get you from the road to the sidewalk. Please take this survey if you have accessibility issues or care for someone who does.
