City of Asheville Boards & Commissions

A number of important positions are open on Asheville boards and commissions.

The deadline for applications for these openings is Monday, April 1, 2019 at 5 p.m.

Citizens-Police Advisory Committee

NOTE: This vacancy is for a Housing Authority resident; please indicate residence on application form. Duties include serving as liaison between the police and community; mediating problems or conflicts; advocating for programs, ideas, and methods to improve the relationship between the police and the community; and disseminating information to the community and to government officials.

Public Art and Cultural Commission

Responsible for promoting and maintaining art displays in public buildings and public spaces in the City of Asheville, members also facilitate public art in public spaces; engage the creative sector as a major attraction for artists, cultural tourism and economic development; and works to build partnerships and collaborations throughout Asheville’s creative community.

Tree Commission

The commission is responsible for fostering the preservation, planting, replacement and removal of trees and facilitates the planting, growing and protection of trees within the city.

Transit Committee

The Committee functions as an advisory board to the Multimodal Transportation Commission and to city staff on matters affecting the transit system and its operation. Transit Committee members are appointed for three years by the Multimodal Transportation Commission.
