Terry M. Bellamy, former Mayor of Asheville, has been hired as the Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator/Communication Specialist for the Asheville Housing Authority.

Mrs. Bellamy comes to the position with more than 15 years of experience working with neighborhood residents to solve issues, developing inclusive and diverse programs, and communicating with the media on behalf of large and small entities.

“I am extremely excited about working with Asheville Housing’s staff, board, and most importantly, residents to continue to develop innovative ways to help residents meet their needs and thrive in today’s economy. Throughout my career, I have partnered with the Housing Authority to help address issues, and I am looking forward to being a part of their team to continue that work,” said Bellamy.

During the next few years, the Housing Authority will be identifying and implementing ways to enhance resident resilience and self-reliance, while responding to the changing landscape of federal funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator/Communication Specialist will play a vital role in ensuring that resident and community input is a part of the process. Gene Bell, CEO of the Housing Authority, stated, “Terry Bellamy grew up in public housing, and is a perfect example of what people can achieve if they set goals for themselves and work hard to make them a reality. We are truly glad to have her on board.”

Asheville Housing Authority owns or operates 1,955 affordable housing units and administers more than 1,600 tenant-based vouchers, and is recognized by HUD as a high performer. For more information contact Gene Bell, CEO, at (828) 258-1222.
