get ready to vote

The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina in the 2014 general election is Friday, October 10, 2014. To register, you have to fill out a voter registration form and turn it in to the Board of Elections no later than October 10.

Where are the forms?

The Board of Elections will mail a form to you if you call and ask for one. Public libraries and high schools have forms available to be picked up in person. The League of Women Voters, the NAACP, and many churches and other organizations have forms available. You can go online to: www.ncsbe.gov/ncsbe/Voter-Information/VR-Form and download a form onto your computer, and print it out yourself.

When I fill out the form, what then?

You can mail the form in to your county Board of Elections no later than Friday, October 10.

How else can I get registered?

You can register to vote at any DMV office in North Carolina. You can register in person at your local Board of Elections office.

Remember…

In 2014, you do not need any identification to vote on Election Day. The new voter ID law passed this year by the N.C. General Assembly would require voters to present a valid, government-issued photo ID beginning in 2016.
