Asheville’s Gamma Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority introduced six young men to society at its recent Beautillion 2019, held in the Mission Health Conference Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Chapter president Terry Bellamy unveiled the theme of the 2019 event, “Exemplifying Young Men of Excellence!” “Today we gather to celebrate and recognize six young men who are exemplifying excellence within Asheville and Buncombe County, while we also raise funds to support our scholarships and other community-based initiatives.”
Raynetta C. Waters served as fundraising chair, and WLOS-TV 13 News anchor Justin Hinton, was master of ceremonies, presenting the 2019 Beaux as they were escorted to the stage by their mothers. Each young man presented his mother with a white rose and a kiss. Clearly these are young men of impeccable character and exemplars for the future.
The evening’s program included a performance by dancer Chynelle Gordon and a brief address by each youth that focused on the theme of excellence and his particular mentor in excellence. Following their presentations, the Beaux led their partners for the evening in a Viennese waltz choreographed by President Bellamy.
Mr. Beautillion 2017, Seth Bellamy, reflected on his experience as a Beau, and was honored to crown his successor, Joshua Foster, a freshman student at Asheville High School and the grandson of Ms. Merion Presha. Sheron Craig and Rhoda Waters recognized first runner-up Zavion Woldu.
The young ladies accompanying the Beaux were a vital part of the 2019 Beautillion presentation. The sorority members are grateful to the young ladies, the Beaux themselves, and their parents, for encouraging them to take the first steps on a life of accomplishment and service.
