See I Am Not Your Negro, the award-winning documentary that brings James Baldwin’s unfinished work to life. The film details the legacy of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Light refreshments will be provided. This free event takes place from 3-5 p.m. at Pack Memorial Library, 67 Haywood St. in Asheville.

Soul Food Supper

Thursday, February 19

The East End Valley Street Neighborhood and the Stephens-Lee Alumni Association invite you to enjoy down-home cooking made from recipes passed down through generations at this annual dinner. This free event takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 George Washington Carver Avenue in Asheville.

Montford Melodies and Legacy Celebration

Friday, February 20

Enjoy an evening of dinner and iconic performances honoring the culture, history, and lasting impact of Black artists, from James Brown to Beyoncé. This free event takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the Tempie Avery Montford Community Center, 34 Pearson Dr. in Asheville.

A Raisin in the Sun

Performed by the Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective, and written by Lorraine Hansberry. Follow the Younger family, an African American household in 1950s Chicago, as they struggle with poverty, racism, and conflicting dreams. 7:30 p.m. at Wortham Center for the Performing Arts, 18 Biltmore Ave. in Asheville.
