Black History Now Awards 2022
Racist, sexist attacks on our education system by powerful forces show no signs of slowing down — Republican legislators have passed anti-Critical Race Theory legislation in 14 states, and have introduced it in at least 37 others.
The Black History Now Awards will be a space to pay tribute to the community leaders in our lives who are fighting back.
Join Color Of Change on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 8 p.m. for their first Black History Now Awards — a free, streaming event that will honor the people in our communities who are working to defend the truth in our education system.
A small group of powerful people have been targeting our communities by passing anti-Critical Race Theory legislation in 13 states, and introducing it in at least 32 others.
These bills propose legislation that allows institutions to terminate educators for discussing race in the classroom, to the banning of books that center Black lives from our public school curriculums and libraries. Take a look at this: Map: Where Critical Race Theory Is Under Attack.
This Black History Month, Color Of Change is celebrating the heroes in our lives who are fighting back. From students who are standing up to their administration to demand that they see their lives reflected in their assignments, to educators who insist on teaching the truth, even when it costs them their jobs, this event will amplify the powerful testimonies of people who have taken risks to ensure the full course of history is taught in our schools.
The Black History Now Awards will feature a lineup full of talented Black performers, including R&B artist Charity, New York Times best selling author, George M. Johnson, and award-winning author, educator, speaker, and performance poet Alyea Pierce.
