Black Asheville 411: June 2026

Celebrating Asheville’s Black community.

Dr. Oralene Simmons (left) and Jonathan McCoy were presented with Asheville’s proclamation recognizing Juneteenth Celebration Week 2026 by Mayor Esther Manheimer.

The Black Asheville 411 panel discussion included representatives from organizations that hold African American centered events in Asheville.

Organizations included Just Folks/Triangle Park events, The Block Collaborative/Ujamaa Marketplace, Grind AVL/Grindfest, YMI Cultural Center/Goombay, Legacy Neighborhoods Coalition/Village Fest.

The panel discussed their organizations, their history/purpose, their events, and their goals. Mayor Esther Manheimer also presented the official Juneteenth declaration for Asheville.
