How to Draw Faces the Paul Choi Way
Tuesday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
This is the first of two classes where you can learn to draw faces with April Flowstate artist-in-residence Paul Choi! Open to anyone ages 10 and up. This event is free, but you do need to register by visiting the library web page. The Trust Fund of the Buncombe County Public Libraries makes the artist-in-residence program possible.

Enka History Book Club
Wednesday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m.
The Enka History Book Club reads historical fiction and non-fiction on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The Book Club pick for April is And There Was Light by Jon Meacham. Books are available at the library in large print and regular print. The group meets in the community room. Newcomers are always welcome.

Hominy Creek Comfort Makers
Thursday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m.
If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron, come join our makers group! Sewers, knitters, and menders are welcome to join us. We will be working on projects that provide comfort items to anyone struggling. To get us started there will be a few Hospice pillow kits, cut and ready to sew, stuff, and complete. Come prepared with your supplies and tools including sewing machine, fabric, yarn and any other items you might need. The library will have some materials on hand as well! You’re also more than welcome to join us, hang out, and work on your own project if you’d like. The group meets in the library community room. No registration required.

YMCA Mobile Market
Wednesday, April 23 at 12 noon
The YMCA Mobile Market takes place in the Enka-Candler Library community room. Bring your grocery bags and get fresh food for your family. The market provides fresh produce paired with healthy recipes and a Community Engagement Table with valuable services. While you’re here get a library card if you don’t have one, pick up a cookbook or two to experiment with your bundle of groceries, or grab a DVD to watch while snacking. Distributions are free and all community members are welcome.

Reading MENtors
Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m.
Reading MENtors is a reading initiative that encourages men from our community to celebrate that reading is for everyone. We’re inviting men with different professions from all over Buncombe County to share the joy of reading with young patrons at Enka-Candler Library. If you’d like to volunteer to be a MENtor or know someone who would be great at it, let us know! A librarian is always with the MENtor during the program.

Jazz Hour
Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
The Michael Jefry Stevens Quartet is back for the popular Jazz Hour at the library. The program will be held indoors in the library community room and is free to the public. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Enka-Candler Library.

Wednesday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
The YMCA Mobile Market will be set up in the library parking lot from 2-3 p.m. Bring your grocery bags and get fresh food for your family. All are welcome, regardless of income or family size. Will the Real Foster Sondley Please Stand Up?
Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
In 1931, lawyer, collector, and historian F.A. Sondley died, leaving his massive collection of books, papers, and bric-a-brac in the public trust. Who was Sondley and why should we still care? In this National Library Month presentation, two local historians will share their research on the man, his library, and the influence he still holds today.

BearWise with NC Wildlife Resources Commission
Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Hibernation season is over in Southern Appalachia, so we’re sure to start seeing our favorite furry friends, black bears, again. At this educational program a representative from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will teach us how to safely coexist with our resident black bear population. BearWise is a national program in the United States that shares ways to prevent conflicts with black bears, provides resources to resolve problems with black bears, and encourages community initiatives to keep black bears wild.

Drop-In Tea Blending Workshop
Thursday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
Hot tea comes in so many varieties and we can help you craft your perfect cup. Drop by any time after 4 p.m. to mix custom tea blends. Caffeinated and non-caffeinated options will be available and all blends are free. We will provide all of the supplies; each participant is invited to make up to ten tea bags to take home with them. Library staff will be there to provide assistance and information about the tea and herbs until supplies run out. No information given during this workshop should be taken as medical advice, participants consume their tea blends at their own risk

SilverArts Annual Art Show
Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m.
SilverArts, “a celebration of the creative expression of seniors in North Carolina”, is a major component of the traditional athletic competition of North Carolina Senior Games. In a philosophy that strives to keep seniors healthy, active and involved, SilverArts unites the athlete and artist in a program that recognizes the similarities of both endeavors: discipline, dedication, and pride in one’s accomplishments. Between April 26 and May 8, Silver Artists will be displaying their work at the Pack Library. Visit any time during the library’s open hours to see the show.

Silver Arts Reception and Artist Meet and Greet
Tuesday, April 29 at 5 p.m.
To kick off the Silver Arts art show described above, this reception will give the artists time to gather, celebrate their accomplishments and view the art show. Members of the public who would like to know more about SilverArts and the artists they represent are invited to join. Light refreshments will be provided.

Peter and the Wolf Gang with Asheville Amadeus Festival
Wednesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m.
Please join The Asheville Conservatory of the Arts for an interactive presentation titled Peter and the Wolf Gang led by Kindermusik instructors, Ms. Monique and Ms. Joy. This event is part of the Asheville Amadeus Festival and will include lots of instrument playing, singing, dancing, and laughing as the musical story is told. Children and their adults will have many opportunities to participate in each music and movement activity throughout the story by using bells, shakers, drums, scarves, ribbons, bubbles and more! We look forward to seeing you and your little ones for a festive and fun musical storytime!
