25th Anniversary of the Shiloh Community Association
A week of community, connection, and celebration.
Thank you to all who supported the SCA during Historic Week!
It was a great success and we cannot be more grateful.
Historic Week kicked off with the ribbon cutting of the new Shiloh House. It marked a monumental achievement for the SCA and a testament to the organization’s commitment to buying back land and property of Shiloh.
The event featured hors d’oeuvres from 67 Biltmore, Gypsy Queen, French Broad Chocolates, and Shiloh’s own Tabria’s Legacy Kitchen. On Tuesday, a special Shine on Shiloh tour highlighted the rich history of Shiloh. Gray Line trolleys helped to make it a memorable experience.
SCA’s 3rd Annual Gala Celebrating 25 Years of Shiloh’s Legacy
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Shiloh Community Association celebrated its 25th anniversary, honoring a quarter-century of preserving and uplifting our historic neighborhood with our 3rd Annual Gala at the DoubleTree in Biltmore. JéWana McEachin served as MC, keeping the program moving and engaging for all. The event was at full capacity, with over 115 tickets sold. Residents, nonprofit partners, and friends enjoyed yummy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, harp music by Jessie Clarke (jessieandtheharp.com), DJ set by Bennie McIntosh, dancing with Westsound, and a lively silent auction with local and national art, gift cards, and much, much more.
Over 70 silent auction items, including Shiloh pins, coffee mugs, and gift cards from local favorites like Corner Kitchen, Burial Beer, Sweeten Creek Brewing, Tater Knob Pottery, and East Fork, were available to support the next chapter of Shiloh’s legacy. The evening featured a guest address by Vice Mayor S. Antanette Mosley, a photo and interview room, and lovely floral arrangements created by Miss Norma. Flowers were donated by Clements Flower Shop, Harris Teeter, and Fresh Market.
Dessert included the DoubleTree’s delicious caramel drizzled apple pie, donated truffles by French Broad Chocolates, rounding out a night of community connection, new friends and celebration. Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Andy Barnett, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, Dr. Ameena Bathada, and Laura Lee Petritz in recognition of their contributions to the Shiloh community. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this 3rd Annual Gala a truly memorable celebration of Shiloh’s past, present, and future!
Historic Day, First Annual Garden Awards and Sunday Community Service
Saturday, September 13, 2025 began with a productive garden workday—moving gravel and mulch, trimming the arbors, turning compost, and connecting with one another. Kevin Conley, with help from an ACE crew member, also built a new gate between the sheds. Afterward, Gardener Singleton led the Garden Awards Ceremony, with bagels, local cider, fresh fruit, and inspiring words from Miss Norma and Miss Sophie Dixon.
Award Recipients
- Sam Fontaine – Shiloh resident & artist, volunteering for 3+ years.
- Ryan Chen – Dedicated ACE member.
- Erin Canter – Associate Director, ACE Eastern Region.
- Nick – Steady, reliable helper.
- Bug – Former ACE member, foundational contributions.
- Dr. Dave – Always ready to turn compost with humor and care
Special thanks to American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit that provides service opportunities for young adults in conservation. ACE members live in the Shiloh community at the former Young’s Nursing Home. When members are not in the field, strengthening connections between their work and our neighborhood.
That afternoon, over 50 people gathered to share stories and appreciate what makes Shiloh special. Longtime residents passed down neighborhood memories to newcomers eager to get involved. It was a meaningful day of connection and community building.
On Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we had the honor of hosting Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church’s service at the Shiloh Community Garden. The sermon was delivered by Pastor Spencer Hardaway, with Pastor Lucy Robbins and Pastor Spencer E. Cullom also attending, along with congregants from Biltmore United Methodist Church and Wellspring United Methodist Church.
Over 40 people attended the service, which centered on the legacy brick pathway as a metaphor—just as the community once built the Rosenwald School brick by brick, we continue building together today. Children were present, tossing a baseball and playing after the service, making it a joyful and spiritual gathering under the open sky.
Guests were treated to fresh Shiloh legacy coffee, along with fruit and fresh-baked pastries lovingly prepared by JéWana’s daughter, JyAire McEachin.
