Evergreen Community Charter School has received $1,200 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents.
Evergreen will use the gift to meet the nutritional needs of students and families.
“The beauty in all of this is connection,” said Sarah Hartnett, Director of Student Services at Evergreen. “When we connect with individuals it makes each person stronger to walk through their day, learn in their experiences, and to give and receive in support of our community.”
Food Lion’s donation will nourish Evergreen’s food pantry, Robin’s Nest. Created last fall in partnership with MANNA FoodBank and with the work of parent volunteers, Robin’s Nest houses frozen meats, pastas, breads, eggs, fresh and canned fruit and veggies, baking supplies, condiments, crackers, and even some chocolate. In doing so, the school ensures no student, regardless of reason, goes without.
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
