Here’s What to Do Instead

For some buyers, now is a great time to buy.

Buying your first home feels easier when you take it one step at a time. Start with your monthly budget, not just the home price, so you can choose a home you can truly enjoy without feeling stretched.

Next, get pre-approved with a trusted lender. This gives you a clear price range and helps make your offer stronger when you find the right home.

Work with an agent who understands first-time buyers and can guide you through pricing, neighborhoods, inspections, negotiations, deadlines and downpayment assistance programs you may qualify for.

When you find the right home, your agent will help you make a smart offer. In North Carolina, it is important to understand the difference between due diligence money and earnest money before signing a contract.

Once under contract, do not skip the home inspection if possible. Your lender will then order the appraisal and complete underwriting. Before closing, you will do a final walkthrough, sign your documents, and receive the keys to your new home.

With the right plan and the right people by your side, buying your first home can feel much more manageable.
