Trumped Up

Trumps first term and the beginning of America’s end by Spike Dolomite.

Trumped Up: Trump’s First Term and the Beginning of America’s EndIt was the worst period in American history since the Civil War.

A bankrupted conman and sociopathic reality TV star rose to power, but he didn’t come out of nowhere. He was the inevitable result of the Republicans’ 40 year plan to take power indefinitely. They did it by branding Democrats as Godless, sex crazed snobs who wanted to take everybody’s guns away and by exploiting the fears, resentments and prejudices of white conservatives via culture wars. Gays! Illegal immigrants! Atheists! Socialists! Feminists! Tree huggers! Libtards! Baby killers!

In Trumped Up: Trump’s First Term and the Beginning of America’s End, author Spike Dolomite pinpoints how Trump and the Republicans were able to nearly destroy democracy by taking advantage of weaknesses and loopholes in the existing systems designed to hold power in place and by further weakening the cracks in our foundation.

Trump’s presidency laid bare all our nation’s secrets, skeletons, sins, lies, and systemic racist laws, policies and attitudes. Many white people were never taught the truth about slavery and indigenous genocide in school, so they were naively taken by surprise when they discovered just how racist, ignorant, arrogant, and selfish many Americans really are and how the Republican party has successfully managed to benefit from that.

For decades Americans haven’t been taught proper civics in school which made Trump’s grift that much easier to pull off. The Trump administration was a lawless regime. Trump changed the rules of the game to no rules at all. Things that were once impossible became regular daily occurrences.

Trump showed us just how great America is not. He ripped off the veil of exceptionalism and revealed our demons and faults. Trump also exposed the Republican party for what it is—a racist, homophobic, misogynistic party without any principles or good ideas, incapable of governing and focused on only one thing—obtaining and maintaining power. Lastly, Trump showed us just how fragile our democracy is. We almost lost it.

While Trump was in office, some people couldn’t bear to watch the news, some listened only to fake news, and others were so glued to the news they got up in the middle of the night just to check their phones.

This book will take you on the four-year roller-coaster ride that was the first Trump presidency but this time, you won’t endure those familiar panic attacks because you know how it ends.
