M A R & the Marmeladies

Cross‑Cultural Rhythm, Contemporary Spirit

M A R & the Marmeladies: M A R on Andean charango, Elizabeth McCorvey on vocals and violin, Mattick Frick on drums, and JP Furnas on bass.

Led by Peruvian-born, Latine songwriter and multi-instrumentalist M A R on Andean charango, guitar, and lead vocals, the band features Elizabeth McCorvey on vocals and Appalachian-infused violin, Mattick Frick on Latin pulse drums, and JP Furnas on bass.

This crew blends infectious rhythms and folky textures that’ll pull you in and keep you moving.

The charango is a small, high‑pitched Andean string instrument whose bright, chiming tone cuts through any space, bringing light and energy. The group weaves soulful Spanish vocals, bluesy grooves, and the raw edge of indie‑folk grit together, creating a sonic palette that feels borderless.

Their arrangements move fluidly between folklore melodies and indie‑pop textures, grounding each performance in acoustic intimacy while pushing into rhythmic experimentation. The result is a sound that’s warm, percussive, and deeply human; music that invites listeners into a shared cultural space.

What sets the band apart is their ability to honor tradition without being confined by it. The charango’s bright resonance dances over earthy percussion and guitar lines, while the vocals, sung with a storyteller’s clarity, carry themes of migration, resilience, and joy. Their live sets often feel like a conversation between continents: the Andes, the American South, and the global indie scene all speaking at once.

This blend makes their performances especially compelling in a place like Marshall, where community gatherings and artistic exchange are part of the town’s heartbeat. M A R and the Marmeladies fit that spirit perfectly.
