The Residence

132 rooms, 157 suspects. One dead body.

One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous state dinner.

The Residence is a screwball whodunit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion. Amid all the twists and turns, detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba) partners with skeptical FBI special agent Edwin Park (Randall Park) to untangle an intriguing murder mystery.

The show opens with the murder of the Chief Usher, A. B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito). The President’s Chief Advisor Harry Hollinger pushes to declare Wynter’s death a suicide, but renowned detective and avid birder Cordelia Cupp deduces within a few seconds that Wynter died elsewhere, his suicide was staged, and he is wearing someone else’s bloody shirt.

The Residence features clever writing combined with funny, cutting, and wonderful performances by Molly Griggs as Lilly Schumacher, the President’s social secretary, Ken Marino as Harry Hollinger, the President’s chief adviser, Susan Kelechi Watson as Jasmine Haney, a White House Assistant Usher, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Larry Dokes, the Chief of Police at the MPD, and Edwina Findley as Sheila Cannon, a White House Butler.

This must-watch series, produced by Shonda Rhimes, blends mystery, intrigue, wit, and comedy.
